U2

I knew I was destined to work with U2, I heard Jimmy Iovine was involved and may be producing the band. That did not stop me, I called Jimmy and told him I needed to see him urgently. A few hours latter I was in Jimmy’s office on the A&M lot in Hollywood.

Jimmy said so what’s the big mystery? I replied I really think I should be producing U2! in my amazement Jimmy replied “you like U2” Yes I love them. Jimmy said “The let’s do it together, I’ll give you a call when we get going we haven’t started yet”.

I was happy with that result and drove back home to find a message from Jimmy’s assistant that Jimmy wanted me back in the studio at 7pm to mix a U2 song and the band would be in around 11pm to give it a listen.

I jumped back into the car and drove back to Hollywood. I mixed the song in studio C at A&M studios at 11:30pm in rolled Bono and Edge. We said our hello's and played I them the mix. I remember clearly looking at Bono and Edge as they listened and looked at each other… It sounded exactly how U2 should sound.

I landed the job. I ended up doing a lot of work on the soundtrack to the movie at first while the band were back in Ireland still writing for the album. After a few months I had a late night call from Jimmy calling from Dublin saying the Band were headed back to LA but the band insisted on me making the record with them and Jimmy.

This was an awesome record to make, U2 one of the most fabulous bans you could ever work with.

I ended up with several credits on the album including “Pre and Post Production by David Tickle”.
